18A - Special Forces Detachment Commander

Responsible for the command, control, training, administration, operations, logistics, and combat readiness of the detachment. Responsible for the training, advising, and assisting up to a battalion-sized indigenous or coalition forces in all operations across the operational spectrum. Plans and conducts operations in all physical environments and across the operational continuum in permissive, semi-permissive and restrictive environments.

 

18B - Special Forces Weapons Sergeant

Specializing in a variety of weapons systems, both United States-issued and foreign, the Weapons Sergeant is responsible for understanding and operating anything that might be used both by the team as well as foreign forces. In addition to familiarization of weapons, he must be able to teach the operation of these systems and tactics to others.

18C - Special Forces Engineer Sergeant

The Engineer Sergeant is the resident demolition expert as well as builder. He designs, constructs, and maintains structures and fortifications and understands how to do the opposite. The Engineer is also charged with all logistical matters, getting the team and all equipment to any place necessary.

18D - Special Forces Medical Sergeant

The missions performed by Special Forces teams frequently take them to austere environments, where medical care is paramount. Special Forces Medics are well-versed not only in trauma medicine, but a broad spectrum of practices. These unique medical professionals may treat battlefield injuries one day and conduct a dental exam or veterinarian medicine the next.

18E - Special Forces Communications Sergeant

From satellite to intra-team communication. The responsibility of maintaining multiple lines of communication falls on the team's Communications Sergeant. He must stay at the forefront of the growing sophistication of telecommunication and electronics in order to support the team and mission.

18X - Special Forces Candidate

The Army National Guard has an 18x initial entry training program for civilians and sister branch service members interested in joining Special Forces. The journey to becoming a Special Forces Soldier will not be easy. Special Forces training is rigorous and highly selective, but the courage and strength you will gain as a candidate will stay with you your entire life.
